A Nation of Immigrants- What is your Family Story?

Actions this week by the Trump Administration in the name of national security- executive orders regarding building a wall on the Mexican Border, stepping up deportation of illegal immigrants, and temporarily halting admission of refugees and immigrants from specified countries have challenged our sense of ourselves as a nation of immigrants. What do you think the best approach would be to manage all those who seek to immigrate to the United States for reasons of economic opportunity, to seek political safety, and to simply have a better life for themselves and their families?

What is your family story? When, why, and how did your family come to the United States to become American? What experiences have you had traveling in and out of the United States compared with your experiences in the countries that you have traveled to?

In Social Studies we'll continue studying immigrant groups in American History. Hopefully this discussion will help connect past and present, and you and history.

This discussion will run until Sunday, February 5th

Here are some links to get you thinking about Immigration and maybe even thinking ahead to bills you might write for Mock Congress.
